Beach Day
We finally had a chance to move out the Airbnb! Only issue being that we didn't actually have a house to move into yet, so for a short time, we were staying with Rob and Varney. After work Katya and I dragged our suitcases to the station and got on the train to Broadstairs. We spent most of the evening unpacking and re-packing in preparation for Wychurst at War and then playing a very competitive version of Tetris.
We were going to go to Wychrust after Rob got home from work so we had a day to kill. The UK has been going through a heat wave, it's been around 28 degrees for weeks on end. So since we were within walking distance of a beach, we were not going to pass up a chance to go sit near water. Plus this beach has bouncy castles!!! But just for kids... unfair.
We had made the very wise choice to load up on ice cream at Tesco to avoid the inflated prices on the beach (help me, I'm becoming my mother). We had to eat quickly though because everything started melting almost instantly.
Most of the other beaches I've been to in England (granted not that many) have been pebble beaches so it felt amazing to have warm sand under your feet - even if it's coarse, and rough, and gets everywhere.
Seagulls are evil bastards. Obviously they tend to dive-bomb people who have food or jump around and screech at you for no reason, but we actually had one come up and bite Katya's leg for no apparent reason. He also just stood and stared at us for ages afterwards. See above photo- where the nasty seagull is doing reconnaissance before his attack.
Despite the heat, it was still really windy so I wasn't completely sold on the idea of going swimming. I made it part way into the ocean but I wasn't going any farther. Katya was brave, she actually dived in and swam for a bit. I fell asleep on my beach towel so I did come away with a bit of a burn, but since I only come in white or red, that's not exactly surprising.
